Industry overview
Why trust matters in food and beverage.
In food and beverage, a product's value often comes from its contents, its origin and the way it was made. In categories such as olive oil, honey, cheese, meat products and spices, blending in a cheaper ingredient or leaving out an essential characteristic is something you cannot see from the packaging and that misleads the consumer. In Türkiye, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry publishes foods confirmed by laboratory results to be imitated or adulterated, together with the company, brand and batch information.
For a brand owner this brings two risks at once: counterfeits sold using copies of the brand's packaging, and the inability to show quickly which batch went where when a problem arises in the supply chain. For products spread across many warehouses, dealers and retail points, complete batch and delivery records make it possible to set the scope of a recall correctly. And letting the consumer verify the product at the shelf puts the trust they place in the brand on concrete evidence.
